A+ COMMUNICATIONS INC. TO EXPAND ROLE WITH SOUTH CENTRAL BELL

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- A+ Communications Inc. and South Central Bell Telephone Company today announced plans to expand A+ Communications Inc.'s role as agent for South Central Bell in Tennessee.
A+ Communications Inc. has been the exclusive sales agent for South Central Bell paging services for 10 years. The companies intend to expand the responsibilities of A+ Communications Inc. to include ownership and management of the tangible assets used by South Central Bell to offer paging service.
South Central Bell had previously agreed to sell its paging operating authorities in Tennessee to A+ Communications Inc. The Tennessee Court of Appeals held on Aug. 4, however, that the Tennessee Public Service Commission had no authority to authorize South Central Bell to sell its paging operating authority to A+ Communications Inc. South Central Bell and A+ Communications Inc. intend to petition the Supreme Court of Tennessee to review this ruling and, if necessary, seek further legislative relief.
In the interim, A+ Communications Inc. and South Central Bell plan to amend their Agency Agreement to enable A+ Communications Inc. to purchase and manage all the tangible assets employed in South Central Bell's paging network in Tennessee. The Agency Agreement will also be modified in its economic terms to reflect the acquisition of these assets. South Central Bell intends to transfer its paging authorities to A+ Communications Inc. with no additional financial considerations as soon as state regulatory approvals are secured. Pending such approval, A+ Communications Inc. will continue to market paging services in Tennessee as South Central Bell's exclusive agent.
A+ Communications Inc., headquartered in Nashville, is a regional provider of paging, mobile communications and telemessaging services through 31 offices operating in eight states throughout the southeastern United States.
BellSouth Telecommunications does business as Southern Bell in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Florida, and as South Central Bell in Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana. These companies serve more than 18.6 million local telephone lines and provide local exchange and IntraLATA long distance services over one of the most modern telecommunications networks in the world.
