A&W BRANDS, INC. WILL MARKET HOT-FILLED COUNTRY TIME LEMONADE

 WHITE PLAINS, N.Y., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- A&W Brands, Inc. (NASDAQ: SODA) announced today that the company has structured an arrangement with General Foods USA to manage the manufacturing, distribution, sales and marketing of hot-filled Country Time Lemonade and hot-filled Country Time Pink Lemonade.
 "We are excited about the introduction of these two new products, which are extensions of the already successful ready-to-drink Country Time Lemonade product," said M. L. Lowenkron, chairman and chief executive officer of A&W Brands, Inc. "The name Country Time is considered synonymous with lemonade."
 A&W Brands said the two new products are 100 percent natural with 15 percent real fruit juice and will be sold in 16-ounce bottles. Manufacturing and distribution is expected to begin in May 1993. The Company said due to the timing within the current year it expects minimal impact on earnings in 1993.
 A&W Brands has marketed cold-filled ready-to-drink Country Time Lemonade under a licensing agreement with General Foods USA since 1986, an agreement that was recently extended for four two-year periods to December 31, 2000. Since 1986, sales of ready-to-drink Country Time Lemonade have more than doubled.
 General Foods USA, based in White Plains, is an operating unit of Kraft General Foods, Inc. which is a subsidiary of Philip Morris Companies (NYSE: MO).
 A&W Brands, Inc., based in White Plains, is a leading marketer of soft drinks in niche flavor segments.
