Byline: Deborah Morris

Remember when your mum used to tell you that your eyes were bigger than your stomach?

Well, some people like to test this theory to the limit with insane portions of food that are truly gut-busting.

And there are those that like to go for the burn and attempt to chew and swallow the hottest, spiciest dishes they can find.

You might recall the AmericanTVreality show Man V. Food which showed Adam Richman tucking into some of his nation's most enormous dishes.

The craze for eating challenges has since taken hold over here in the UK and London is a prime place for serving up meals of epic proportions or eye-watering heat.

Can you get your mouth round a towering burger or plough your way through a yard-long pizza?

Is your mouth able to handle the burn of fiery chilli dishes or can you stomach a blow-out breakfast?

If you're on a diet look away now for in no particular order of preference we list 9 epic eating challenges in London.

Undo the top button of your jeans, grab a glass of water and - if you're brave enough - get your laughing gear around this not-so-little or rather hot lot.

Some people eat a little bit and can't eat any more, said Sankar. Those brave enough to try will be given yogurt to help cool them down, because, explained Sankar, water will make you feel hotter.

You won't find the Bollywood Burner on the menu and the restaurant needs a week's notice if you want to order one so it can get in all the ingredients required.
