9/11 showdown.

I am very disappointed that THE NEW AMERICAN gave Mr. Kirt Poovey a chance to spread significant disinformation regarding the 9/11 attacks in the Letters to the Editor section of the April 2, 2007 issue.

Mr. Poovey dismisses Professor Steven Jones' extensive research and thoroughly documented findings with a wave of the hand by saying Jones could not possibly be correct in his assertion that planted explosives brought down the buildings on 9/11 because he does not present evidence for how the thermite explosives were planted. As if that proves it could not possibly have happened! What about the many Twin Tower workers who have testified that there were power outages and large sections of the buildings were without normal security cameras operating during the week prior to the attacks--which was highly unusual and would have provided ample opportunity for a relatively small team of highly trained workers to plant the necessary thermite?

Mr. Poovey then proceeds to give his opinions of the source of the observed molten metals that Jones says was caused by thermite: magnesium from the airplanes. It's as though his opinions are valid because he thought them up. Where are his experiments to prove them? Mr. Poovey presents no evidence but his own opinions in attempting to discredit a full professor of physics and many others who have spent considerable time researching this subject in depth.

Mr. Poovey fails to explain how three--not two--high-rise buildings in lower Manhattan collapsed on the same day (only two were struck by airplanes) when no other high-rise building in the world has ever collapsed from fire before 9/11. Where is Mr. Poovey's explanation for the many eyewitnesses who were in the Twin Towers on 9/11 who have testified they heard, felt, and saw huge explosions throughout the buildings just before they came down?
