8th cross-strait meeting slated for August 9.
Taipei, July 27, 2012 (CENS)--The eighth cross-Strait meeting is scheduled to take place in Taipei, capital of Taiwan, on August 9, to be presided over by P.K. Chiang, chairman of Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), and his Chinese counterpart, Chen Yunlin, president of the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits (ARATS).
The 8th cross-Strait meeting will focus on the inking of Bilateral Investment Agreement (BIA) and signing of the Cross-Strait Customs Cooperation Agreement, according to an official in charge of Chinese affairs.
The official confirmed that the terms of the BIA have been mutually finalized; moreover, Chen of ARATS will arrive in Taiwan on August 8 to meet his Taiwanese counterpart the following day to sign the agreement and the Cross-Strait Customs Cooperation Agreement at the Grand Hotel in Taipei.
According to the agenda, on August 8 K.L. Kao, vice chairman of SEF and L.Z. Zheng, vice chairman of ARATS, will attend the preparatory meeting. The two top negotiators, Chiang and Chen, will meet the next day to sign the agreement, with the time of the meeting not yet officially decided.
The official emphasized that both sides have agreed on some details of the agreement, specifically crime-fighting and mutual legal assistance, hence helping to reinforce protection of freedom and safety of investors from both sides.
