83 Persons Have been HIV-Infected in Georgia since Beginning of Year.

Tbilisi. 83 people have been HIV-infected in Georgia since the beginning of the year, the Georgian Scientific-Practical Center

of Infectious Pathology, AIDS and Clinical Immunology reported on Wednesday, March 20.

Overall 3 thousand 724 HIV cases (including 2 thousand 732 males and 992 females) have been reported in Georgia. AIDS has

developed in 2 thousand 379 patients - Georgian Scientific-Practical Center of Infectious Pathology, AIDS and Clinical Immunology

reported.

At the present time 1 thousand 511 patients, including 39 children, have been undergoing treatment," the Center reported.

The first case of HIV/AIDS was reported in Georgia in 1989. Since that time 816 people died of the disease. Consumption of

narcotic drugs and homosexual contacts are the main causes of HIV/AIDS infection in Georgia.
