80 traffic offences in New Year.

Ras Al Khaimah: Police have registered 80 traffic violations by heavy and light trucks in Ras Al Khaimah from the beginning of the New Year until Sunday.

A top police official said that 22 violations were by light vehicles, 43 by heavy ones and the rest in abstentia cases.

Six light vehicles and 10 heavy vehicles were detained.

The Traffic and Licensing Department stated that 206 accidents occurred in RAK within the same period.

There was one death and injuries to 17 people in 15 accidents.

The official attributed the accidents to poor attitude of road users, misjudgment of distance between vehicles, tyre blow-outs and ignoring checking the road among other causes.

He underscored the importance of proper road behaviour by drivers and pedestrians.
