8 weather stations are destroyed; vandals.

EIGHT weather stations have been destroyed by vandals who thought they were speed cameras.

The National Roads Authority said the weather information systems, which cost almost [euro]50,000 each, were badly damaged or broken completely putting motorists' lives at risk.

A total of [euro]1.7million has been spent on new equipment and replacements for the vandalised stations in the past four years.

NRA spokesman Sean O'Neill said: "The latest attack was in the last month and two more traffic counters have been damaged recently where the batteries were taken and boxes smashed.

"These geniuses destroying them are making road conditions more dangerous for themselves and loved ones."
