8 police officers killed by suicide bomber in southern Afghanistan.

KABUL, March 16 Kyodo

A suicide bomber attacked a police convoy in Lashkar Gah, the capital of Helmand Province in restive southern Afghanistan, on Monday, killing at least eight police officers and wounding 25 others, local police officials said.

The Taliban are active in southern Afghanistan.

Also on Monday, insurgents raided a truck terminal in Peshawar in neighboring Pakistan used as a supply depot for U.S. forces in Afghanistan, destroying 15 vehicles, according to the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic News Agency.

The overland supply route from northwestern Pakistan to Afghanistan has often been attacked by insurgents close to the Taliban, who were removed from power by the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.

Monday's raid came a day after insurgents attacked a separate truck depot in Peshawar and destroyed about 30 vehicles.
