8 YEARS FOR STAB TEENAGER; Fury at 'rat' thugs.
A TEENAGER was caged for eight years yesterday after stabbing a man to death.
Lift engineer Michael Lynch had enjoyed a farewell drink with workmates, ahead of plans to emigrate to Australia, when he was fatally knifed by Mark Hulley, 18.
He suffered seven stab wounds as his mother tried to protect him from a gang of 20 youths she described as "sewer rats".
Three brothers appeared at the High Court in Glasgow over the tragic night on June 23 last year.
Andrew Hulley, 17, of Cardonald, was found guilty of thrusting a broken bottle into Michael's face as he walked home.
The 29-year-old victim's mum, Josephine, told the court that he went to bed on painkillers at home in Linthouse when she saw Graham Hulley at her window with a big stick.
She ran out to chase him but Michael followed her.
She said they were surrounded by a mob and Craig Hulley plunged a knife into her son's chest.
Mark Hulley, whose address was given as Polmont YOI, Andrew and Christopher Donohoe, 17, of Drumoyne, were cleared of murder but Mark was convicted of culpable homicide.
Mrs Lynch later said she was sickened when the Crown withdrew the murder indictment against Craig, 21, of Govan, and Graham, 20, of Dumbreck, due to lack of evidence.
Her family were in uproar at the sentencing.
Andrew Hulley, who spent a year in custody, got probation for a year and community service.
Mrs Lynch said: "At least 20 thugs surrounded us that night. They appeared from nowhere like sewer rats and disappeared as quickly."
