7th Meeting of al-Bassel Heart Society for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery Starts.

Damascus, (SANA) -- Activities of 7th Meeting of Al Bassel Heart Society for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery and the 1st Arab Association of Cardiothoracic Surgery Conference kicked off on Saturday.

The 4-day conference discusses the latest developments in cardiology and cardiac surgery for children and older people.

Doctors from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Yemen, France, Turkey, Britain, Spain and Syria are participating in the conference.

Minister of Health Rida Said indicated to Syria's progress in cardiology treatment, adding that the ministry already has three centers specialized in cardiac surgery while 4 other hospitals in Lattakia, Homs, Deir Ezzor and Daraa governorates are still under-preparation.

He said that heart and blood vessel diseases remain the major cause of deaths in Syria and the world which necessitates restructuring emergency services and establishing a more developed ambulance system in Syria.

Al-Bassel Heart Society for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery was established in 2002 by a number of Syrian and international cardiac doctors and surgeons.

The conference is organized by al-Bassel Heart Society for Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery in cooperation with Ministry of Health.
