7. Liquid Planet coffee.

We, here at The Gourmet Retailer, love coffee. In fact, many of us redefine the term hypercaffeinated on a daily basis. So when an aromatic package arrived at the office smelling of our favorite beverage, we clamored around to view its welcomed contents and quickly put Liquid Planet's Whole Bean Sumatran Coffee to the test. This organic coffee from Sumatra boasts a smoky, complex, heady flavor and for cupping purposes, is medium- to full-bodied, semi-sweet, with a slight hint of earthiness as it cools. Definitely not for the faint of heart, but we all agreed these beans brewed up one exceptional pot of coffee. We sampled the organic Guatemalan, Ethiopian and Mexican varieties as well, with each eliciting a series of robust "oohs" and "aahs." The company explained that each coffee is unique single origin, and like a fine wine where the grapes are grown in a single vineyard, it maintains the rich, unique flavor of the soil and climate in which it was grown. The end result? Unrivaled purity and, in our opinion, a superb cup of Joe. We also admire the company's commitment to sustainability and social awareness. Each Liquid Planet variety is certified organic, shade grown and comes from Farmers First growers. For more information, visit www. liquidplanet.com.
