67 percent Increase in TV Broadcasting Hours during 2014.
Muscat, Nov 22 (ONA) ---The TV broadcasting hours in the Sultanate increased with 67% in 2014 compared with the figures recorded in 2013. The governmental TV channels broadcasted for 17520 hours; while the private TV channels broadcasted for 8760 hours during 2014; according to the statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The statistics depended on the broadcasting hours of programs in the public channel of Oman TV and Majan Private Channel only because these two channels broadcast public programs. The broadcasting hours of specialized channels have not been detailed because they broadcast a single program during most of their broadcasting hours.
According to the proportional distribution of the public TV channels broadcasting hours in Oman TV and the annual broadcasting hours, the religious, cultural and educational programs have accounted for 24.5% of the broadcasting hours insomuch as two thousand and 150 hours; while the share of development programs was two thousand and 82 hours constituting about 23.8% of the broadcasting hours.
The statistics showed that news programs were broadcasted for two thousand hours; while the share of entertainment and art programs reached one thousand and 540 hours constituting 17.6% of the total broadcasting hours. Kids programs accounted for 7.6% of the total broadcasting hours with 665 hours.
The youth and sports programs have accounted for 2.3% of the total broadcasting hours insomuch as 200 hours; while the share of introductions and program presentations reached 123 hours constituting 1.4% of the broadcasting hours on the Oman TV public channel.
As for the proportional distribution of private TV broadcasting according to the programs and the annual broadcasting hours, the entertainment and art programs accounted for 42.8% of broadcasting hours insomuch as 3 thousand and 751 hours. They were followed by the religious, cultural and educational programs that constituted 34.5% insomuch as 3 thousand and 26 hours. Kids programs came third with 8.3% and 730 broadcasting hours.
Introductions and program presentations accounted for 6.6% of the private TV broadcasting hours insomuch as 574 hours; while the shares of development programs reached 470 hours constituting 5.4%. Youth and sports programs have accounted for 1.8% with 157 broadcasting hours; while the news programs constituted 0.6% with 52 broadcasting hours.
