63 miners killed in explosion; DOZENS MISSING AFTER BLAST AT 3000ft.

MORE than 60 miners were killed and 37 others trapped by a raging underground fire after a methane blast at a pit in Ukraine.

The explosion happened at the Zasyadka mine in eastern Ukraine at a depth of more than 3300ft.

More than 360 miners made it to safety, some clambering over dead friends in blinding dust to get out.

As dozens of weeping relatives waited for news last night, rescuers said they had found 63 bodies.

Ukrainian mines are among the world's most dangerous, with a high number of fatal accidents.
