600 flour bags recovered in Ahmedpur Sharqia.

BAHAWALPUR -- The district food department has recovered 600 bags of wheat flour from a restaurant and hotel in Ahmedpur Sharqia tehsil of Bahawalpur district which were provided by the Punjab government to be sold out to faithful during holy month of Ramazan on special subsidized rates.

The official sources told reporter here on Friday that the district food department received information that the owner of a restaurant and hotel had stocked 600 bags of wheat flour which he got on special subsidized rates in connivance with the black sheep in the department concerned. He wanted to sell them out in open market after Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Punjab government have been supply wheat flour on special subsidized rates to provide a facility to faithful during the holy month of Ramazan. But, owners of some restaurants and grocery shops got them in bulk in connivance with black sheep in the department concerned.

On a tip-off, District Food Controller, Chaudhary Tanvir Waraich along with Assistant Food Controller, Mahar Riaz Ahmed conducted raid at the restaurant and hotel and seized 600 bags of subsidized wheat flour.

The city police have lodged a case against the accused. Further probe was underway.
