60 jobs on offer at new multiplex; Staff skills range from projection to popcorn.

Byline: LAURA CAPEWELL

RUGBY'S new multi-screen cinema has one month to go before the launch and bosses are holding a final recruitment drive tomorrow.

Cineworld is due to open on Friday, February 16, at the Junction One retail and leisure park on the Leicester Road.

Tomorrow, Cine-UK, which will run the nine-screen complex, is holding a recruitment fair at Rugby Job Centre in Railway Terrace. Sixty jobs are on offer - from popcorn popping to film projection.

Cine-UK spokeswoman Amber Rusk said: "While we have recruited all our managers for the Rugby Cineworld, we are now looking to find up to 60 full- and part-time staff.

"There is a lot of scope for fulfilling a multi-functional role, with staff tackling ushering, work in the box office, cleaning the screens and even trying out film projection.

"And of course, they get to watch great movies for free, before anyone else.

"The recruitment day is the last chance people have to join our team."

The cinema's general manager, Justina Nicholson, added : "The opening of Cineworld creates fantastic job opportunities for the town and the people of Rugby.

"We know how much the people of Rugby are looking forward to the cinema opening so we are sure that people will be keen to work with us."

She added: "I think Cineworld will bring a wide range of movies to Rugby, including the blockbusters.

"It will also offer a state-of-the-art meeting place and leisure environment for all ages. I have had very positive comments from everyone I have met."

The recruitment fair runs from 10am to 4pm. Phone the centre on 01788 203458 for more details.

The town's last cinema, the Plaza, opened in North Street in 1933, where Crown House now stands.
