6 wiped out in TV Dale explosion.

Byline: By SUZANNE KERINS

A MASSIVE blast could kill off SIX Emmerdale favourites this summer.

ITV1 bosses want to pull off another huge ratings winner like the Lockerbie-style plane crash episode which lured 17million viewers.

One said: "The explosion will be one of this year's biggest storylines. Viewers will be hooked.

"Writers were told to devise a way of getting rid of six stars who are a bit stale. But bosses will pick the victims very carefully - two are definitely out."

Villagers turn up for the grand opening of the King brothers' new housing development but one of the houses explodes due to faulty wiring.

Soap boss Kathleen Beedles ordered the blast to make her mark after supremo Steve Frost left. A show insider added: "Not all the actors know their fate.

"New characters are worried as they haven't had the chance to develop.

"It has caused a lot of tension on set. But bosses are convinced the show will be a ratings winner."

Among those worried are benefits cheat Dawn Woods (Julia Mallam) who yo-yos between her child's dad Scott Windsor (Ben Freeman) and love-rival Danny Daggert Cleveland Campbell). But will it be Danny in the danger zone with Dawn?

Heartbroken Jimmy King (Nick Miles) - dumped for wrinklier but richer Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) - is also in the frame.

Badboy and ruthless businessman Matthew King (Matt Healy) might find that his luck runs out.

And viewers were not impressed when bisexual binman Ivan Jones (Daniel Brocklebank) locked lips with Paul Blackstock. He could find himself put out with the rubbish.

Jenny Tomasin (Noreen Bell) is also a runner, while many Woolpack regulars would love to see gossip Betty Eagleton (Paula Tilbrook) silenced.
