6 APPARENTLY there's still a law on our statute books that proclaims anyone "not in the lower classes of life" should not eat oatmeal or potatoes.

And if you eat on a Wednesday, technically you're breaking the law as under a 1665 order the first Wednesday of every month is a day of fasting and penance for the relief of Bubonic plague in London.

It's just one of the several thousand ancient laws which the Government is hoping to abolish.

As someone who hated porridge as a child, I'm sure there are lots of kids who would gladly see oatmeal banned from their table!
