6,000 experts to share experiences.

MANAMA: More than 6,000 oil and gas industry professionals are expected to take part in MEOS 2009.

They represent 290 companies from 35 countries at the exhibition covering all areas of the upstream oil and gas industry from production to reservoir management, drilling measurement systems and information technology.

The event runs until Wednesday and has received strong support from all the GCC national oil companies.

Participants include major technology suppliers and operators including Baker Hughes, ExxonMobil, Halliburton, Schlumberger and Weatherford as well as many small operations looking to boost their business in the region.

"With a rich technical programme and a comprehensive exhibition, companies and delegates alike can utilise this forum to learn about future global demand, forge trading relationships, share expertise and knowledge and create new technologies for exploration and production," said Society of Petroleum Engineers regional director Middle East Waleed Refaay.

"Since this event first took place in 1979 it has remained one of Society of Petroleum Engineers' main Middle East-focussed events, which has contributed to the growth of the industry and the development of our resources."

Covering 14,000 square metres, this year's event is the biggest ever at a time when many companies are looking to the Middle East industry for growth while other regions in the world ate experiencing a slow down. Even on the first day exhibitors were describing the show as a major success because of the number of visitors who were already pouring through the doors.
