5TOP SCI-FI HORRORS.
PANDORUM (TOP LEFT) HAS GOT A LOT TO LIVE UP TO...1. INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS (1956) The residents of a small Californian town are transformed into zombies after alien pods land nearby. A young Sam Peckinpah helped hone the script.
2. ALIEN (1979) A bloodthirsty extra-terrestrial unleashes havoc on the crew of the Nostromo space ship in Ridley Scott's Oscar-winning chiller. The creature, made of plasticine and old car parts, was auctioned for $126,500 in 2007.
3. THE THING (1982) Recently released in pristine high-definition, John Carpenter's tale of a shape-shifting alien discovered at the South Pole continues to terrify. A prequel is now in the works.
4. THE FLY (1986) Director David Cronenberg took the hokey 1958 original and turned it into one of the 80s goriest - and most memorable - spine-tinglers.
5. EVENT HORIZON (1997) Paul WS Anderson's ahead-of-its-time shocker - think The Shining in space - focused on astronauts investigating the loss of a ship near Neptune. The studio ordered 30 minutes of cuts, which are now thought to be lost forever.
