57 killed in train blaze.

RELIGIOUS tensions in India escalated after at least 57 people were killed when a Muslim mob set fire to a train carrying Hindus returning from a holy site claimed by both religions.

A group of Muslims stoned several carriages carrying the Hindu activists and then doused the cars with paraffin.

The carriages of the Sabarmati Express were set ablaze as the train was about to leave Godhra, in the western state of Gujarain, trapping the Hindus inside.

District administrator Jayanti Ravi said 14 children were among the 57 confirmed dead.
