500 Imambargahs, 900 religious places declared sensitive in Muharram.

PESHAWAR, December 07, 2010 (Balochistan Times): As many as 500 Immam Bargahs and 900 religious places have been declared sensitives on occasion of Muharram-ul-Harram in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as the government has put security on high alert in provincial capital to ward off any subversive activity, officials sources in Police Department said on Tuesday. Under the security plan, strict action will be taken against elements found guilty in violation of section 144 and countrys laws during Moharram. The citizens have been asked to cooperate with staff of law enforcement agencies posted on check-posts in their own interest. A violator of laws would be held responsible for any consequences, the senior officer of Police Department said. In addition to Police, special powers were also given to Frontier Corps and Frontier Constabulary to maintain security and ward-off any eventuality during Muharram. Eight districts including Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu and D.I.Khan have been declared very sensitive. Peshawar will be almost sealed from 1st Muharram and ban has been imposed on pillion-riding besides closure of hotels. A comprehensive security plan for Moharramul-Harram has been chalked out by City police and eight districts in the province has been declared most-sensitive and twelve sensitive in the province. Official sources informed that 900 religious places in sensitive districts were declared sensitive while 15 Imam-Bargahs, 11 routes, and 5 mosques in Peshawar were declared most-sensitive. Collectively, more than 500 Imam-Bargahs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were declared sensitive while 450 other religious places were announced most sensitive in KPK. The plan has been devised on the report of Interior Ministry regarding security arrangements during Muharram-ul-Harram. In FATA, Kurram and Orakzai Agencies were declared more-sensitive. The security plan has been chalked out by City police for ensuring a peaceful atmosphere on Ashura and decided to ensure special deployment of law enforcers on this sensitive occasion. Army has been made on standby position, he added. All the entry and exit points of routes of processions on 9th and 10th of Muharram would be sealed. All hospitals including Lady Reading, Hayatabad Medical Complex, and Hayat Shaheed Teaching Hospital were put on high alert. The ambulances of these hospitals would be deployed to provide medical cover to Majalis and processions. Extra vigilance would be maintained in and around the Majalis and on routes of processions in close coordination with local peace committees and organisers of the processions and Majalis in the city and rural areas. The district administration would also contact with the PESCO officials for adjusting load management schedule in areas and stand-by arrangements for generators by the organisers. The religious scholars of all school of thoughts and a code of conduct agreed upon by the religious scholars were finalised for maintaining an atmosphere of brotherhood and tolerance besides inter-faith harmony. Security officials would be deployed at sensitive and public places to keep a vigilant eye on their surroundings. Main processions will be covered through security cameras.
