50-OFF STORES REPORTS SALES FOR OCTOBER AND THIRD QUARTER
SAN ANTONIO, Nov. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- San Antonio based off-price apparel retailer 50-OFF Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: FOFF) announced its October net sales for the five-week period ended Oct. 30, 1992 increased 51.3 percent to $16.8 million from $11.1 million for the same period last year. Net sales on a comparable store basis decreased 2.0 percent for the five-week period.
For the third quarter of the current fiscal year ended Oct. 30, 1992, net sales increased 41.2 percent to $43.5 million from $30.8 million and net sales on a comparable store basis decreased 3.5 percent. Net sales for the 39 week period ended Oct. 30, 1992 increased 41.0 percent to $119.3 million from $84.6 million and net sales on a comparable store basis for the year were up 0.1 percent.
Chairman, President and CEO Charles Siegel, commented that the October, third quarter and year-to-date sales were negatively impacted by atypical weather. "This year's unusual weather conditions in the markets where we operate stores have certainly hurt sales." The company's third quarter sales, particularly in the higher priced outerwear categories, were well below expectations as a result of the record high temperatures in the South. "Our customers displayed their characteristic 'as needed' buying pattern and simply did not purchase sweaters and jackets during the third quarter."
With the opening of 12 stores in October, 50-OFF Stores, Inc. completed its plan to open 32 stores during the current fiscal year. The company currently operates 98 stores in eight states in the South and Southwest.
