50-OFF STORES, INC. REPORTS INCREASED NET SALES

50-OFF STORES, INC. REPORTS INCREASED NET SALES
SAN ANTONIO, Texas, Oct. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- San Antonio based off-

price apparel retailer 50-OFF Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ: FOFF) continued its upward sales trend with the announcement of its September net sales for the four-week period ended Sept. 25, 1992. The chain reported net sales increased 27.8 percent to $10.1 million from $7.9 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 12.5 percent against last year's 35.5 percent increase.
Charles Siegel, chairman, president and CEO of the company, commented on the results. "The company is extremely vulnerable to unpredictable weather swings during September and October which make for difficult planning for either month on an individual basis. Last year's unusually cool September, as well as the Diez y Seis Mexican holiday falling on a Monday last year, contributed to the substantial increase in last year's comparable store sales. Comparing same store sales for September 1990 (when the weather and holiday impact was more similar to this year's impact) to September 1992 provides an alternative measure of sales performance; such a comparison shows that 1992 comparable store sales increased approximately 21 percent over comparable store sales in September 1990."
Siegel also stated that the company's 12 stores planned for October, including its first entry into Georgia this week with six stores in Atlanta, are all on schedule and should all be open by October 15. At such time, 50-OFF Stores, Inc. will be operating 98 stores in eight states in the South and Southwest.
