50% WORRY ABOUT LEVEL OF DRINKING.

ALMOST half of Merseysiders worry about how much their friends and family drink.

A survey found it is actually the younger generation who are more concerned than older people about others drinking too much.

The research, published today by the government's Know Your Limits campaign, also found women are more likely to worry than men about others drinking too much.

Brenda Fullard, public health specialist for Merseyside, said: "The Big Drink Debate showed more than 1m people in the north west are drinking at harmful or hazardous levels.

"It is not surprising so many people are concerned about how a friend or family member drinks.

"Many of us enjoy a drink, especially at Christmas and New Year, but on the downside, alcohol can cause tension and family arguments."
