5-0: Newcastle give champs their biggest beating for 12 years; Man U couldn't make it up..

Soccer giants Manchester United crashed to a humiliating FIVE- NIL defeat at Newcastle yesterday in a match that will go down in history.

The amazing pounding of last season's Premiership champions and FA Cup winners was the team's worst result in 12 years.

Stunned United fans could only look on in disbelief as ecstatic Newcastle supporters cheered their side to victory at St James' Park. And pounds 15million golden boy Alan Shearer was among the Geordie demolition squad that shattered United boss Alex Ferguson's unbeaten record this season.

The last time Manchester United experienced such a pummelling was in 1984 when Everton also thrashed them five-nil in the old Division One. Last night delighted Newcastle fans celebrated long after the final whistle blew in a game watched by a crowd of 36,000.

And showbiz stars queued up to praise Newcastle boss Kevin Keegan and his men for their outstanding performance.

Gladiator Sharron Davies, whose husband Derek Redmond is a Newcastle fan, said: "It really was a great result."
