Byline: David Love

A BOOZED-UP engineer who drove a people carrier packed with work pals at 120mph was jailed for five months yesterday.

Michael Laverty, 39, had admitted speeding in the Ford Galaxy with six passengers on the A9 near Daviot, Aberdeenshire, in June, while almost four times the drink limit.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard he had a blood alcohol count of 124mg. The limit is 35mg.

Jailing married Laverty and banning him for five years, Sheriff Margaret Neilson said: "Driving that intoxicated at that speed rendered me almost speechless. You're lucky you didn't kill anybody."
