5 meat trucks smuggled daily to Afghanistan.

PESHAWAR -- Despite the presence of District Administration and other law enforcement agencies, five fully loaded trucks of slaughtered animals meat has been smuggled to Afghanistan from Chamkani area of Peshawar on daily basis in wee hours, a resident of Chamkani disclosed.
The clandestinely trucks were easily transported from Peshawar through the Ring Road, however, a man on the condition of anonymity said that policemen in Chamkani, Bahnamari, Pishtakhara and Hayatabad facilitating the illegal transport of meat especially at different check posts, in order to earn huge amount from the smugglers. One can see around five trucks carrying meat on daily basis in wee hours on Ring Road he added.
While contacted to official of District Administration, he decline to comment in this regard.
A part from slaughter animals meat, everyday taxis, wagons and buses were filled with cloth, black tea and auto parts are smuggle down the country through various established channels in Peshawar.
Sources said rich smugglers spend their illegal income in promoting terrorism, as most finance the same charities that support anti-Pakistan forces in Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Despite the best efforts of various anti-smuggling government agencies to strictly enforce the law, the goods are sold openly in hundreds of single fronted shops at Peshawar, it is leant.
Taking advantage of the United Nations-facilitated Afghan Transit Trade Agreement (ATTA), a massive smuggled goods trade has grown around goods imported into Afghanistan and smuggled back into the markets of provincial capital and other provinces.
Smuggling is not considered as crime as thousands of shops in Pakistan sells goods brought clandestinely from Afghanistan, Muhammad Amin a trader in Peshawar said.
Officially, Pakistan has a bilateral trade of two billion US dollars with Afghanistan. But the volume of clandestine business between the two countries is estimated to be more than ten billion dollars every year.
