5 booked for demanding extortion in Hafizabad.

HAFIZABAD -- Another case Under Section 365/386 (abduction, torture and extortion) was registered against the five accused, Hamed, Hasnain and others of Kolo Tarar, who have already been arrested on the charge of allegedly abducting and thrashing a poor worker Mustaneer, on the complaint of Muhammad Abdullah Shah of Kolo Tarar to the effect that the said accused had abducted him sometime back and took him to their dera where they made him cock, severely thrashed him and also snatched Rs. 15,000/-.
Residents take to streets against GEPCO
The inhabitants of Gala Hakeem Rasheed Jalalpur Road Hafizabad on Friday took out a rally to protest against the unfriendly attitude of the employees of GEPCO for not replacing their transformer for the past two days.
The protesters blocked traffic on Jalalpur Road by burning tyres for half an hour and raised slogans against the Executive Engineer GEPCO and other personnel.
They said that the transformer of their locality was burnt two days ago which made their lives miserable but despite several requests the concerned authorities lent deaf ear to replace the transformer.
They called upon the GEPCO Chief to transfer the Xen Hafizabad on the charge of his anti-people policies which created multiple problems for the masses of the area.
Students protest against head clerk
The students of Govt. Islamia College for Women protested against the attitude of the head clerk of the college for collecting excessive fee for fourth year class.
A student Wajiha Hameed has protested against the receipt of Rs1782 instead of Rs1132 by head clerk Muhammad Naeem.
Other students also protested against what they considered extortion from them and called upon the authorities to take departmental action against the clerk.
However, Deputy Director Colleges Malik Shams, when contacted, assured that he would enquire into the allegations and would take serious action against the defaulting employee.
