5,000 STEELWORKERS WILL JOIN 30th ANNIVERSARY MARCH ON WASHINGTON

PITTSBURGH, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 5,000 United Steelworkers of America (USWA) members will join the 30th Anniversary March on Washington on Saturday, Aug. 28, it was announced today.
About 4,000 Steelworkers will come in 85 chartered buses from as far away as Illinois and South Carolina, and many more will come in private cars. Thirteen buses will be coming from Pittsburgh, departing at 4 a.m., from the USWA's International Headquarters building.
The Steelworkers will be joining thousands of other unionists in voicing demands that Congress vote to bar permanent replacement of strikers, to reform health care and OSHA reform, and to defeat the North American Free Trade Agreement.
"The issues of dignity and justice that Martin Luther King articulated thirty years ago still need to be addressed, along with many critical issues that have arisen since that inspiring day in 1963," said USWA Vice President Leon Lynch, who has coordinated the USWA participation. "Steelworkers will never remain silent while working people in this country continue to suffer."
