48 Million Voters Receive Real-Time Access to Results in Landmark Election -- Crescendo Networks' Maestro Product Delivers ``Performance Beyond Expectations''.

TEL AVIV, Israel -- Crescendo Networks, the global leader in application acceleration, announced today that it has teamed with Dunkel GmbH to deliver a new standard in on-line, real-time, application delivery. Supporting the recent German national elections which took place on September 18, 2005, Crescendo handled Internet-generated traffic spikes (flash crowd events) twenty times above normal levels. Election returns indicated that 77.7% of the population, or almost 48 million people, voted in this landmark event.

The State Statistical Office of Hesse and public broadcasting stations chose Dunkel GmbH to manage online infrastructure resources in order to assure timely access to election results. As part of its strategy Dunkel, which has delivered state and federal election results for the past six years, selected Crescendo Networks' Maestro Application Front End (AFE) platform to assure that its network could deliver real-time election results in this historic event. "The challenges of this unique, special event-hosting project are the traffic spikes that ramp with the first results, and then disappear again a day or two after the election," stated Axel Dunkel, founder of Dunkel GmbH.

Each previous election had placed greater demands on the application delivery resources of the network infrastructure. In order to meet these growing demands, Dunkel installed Crescendo's Maestro AFE at data centers to dramatically increase network performance, optimize server resources, assure the applications and improve the quality of the end user experience.

Shortly after 8:00 PM, when election results started to come in and web site addresses were broadcast on national television, the number of 'page hits' spiked to more than twenty times their normal average. "Even with these massive spikes, Crescendo's Maestro AFE was able to efficiently respond to user requests, significantly enhancing the performance of the entire infrastructure. We are pleased with the results of this project, which provided critical data delivery when it was most needed. It has certainly exceeded our expectations," commented Dunkel. Performance numbers subsequently indicated that the Maestro AFE improved client response time by 90% and server capacity by 700%, while also reducing individual client bandwidth requirements by 50%. In addition, Maestro provided four times the normal number of simultaneous network connections.

"We appreciate the confidence that Dunkel had in Crescendo Networks, are gratified that we had the opportunity to demonstrate Maestro's performance and pleased that our technology contributed to the success of such an important national event," remarked Adoram Gaash, CEO of Crescendo Networks, LTD.
