430 killed in shelling bloodbath; SRI LANKA.

AT least 430 civilians died in heavy shelling in Sri Lanka yesterday.

The death toll, which includes at least 100 children, was expected to rise.

Last night the United Nations branded the assaults on Tamil people as a "bloodbath".

Protests have flared around the world to highlight the deaths and alleged human rights abuses during fighting in Sri Lanka.

Around 50,000 civilians are crowded into a 3.8kmlong strip of coast along with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam fighters, who have been fighting for 25 years for a homeland for minority Tamils..
