430,000 FPL CUSTOMERS WITHOUT POWER SATURDAY NIGHT

 MIAMI, March 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 430,000 Florida Power & Light Co. customer accounts were out of service late today (Saturday) because of high winds that hampered repair efforts throughout the day.
 FPL officials reported scattered outages in most of the utility's 35-county service area, from the Florida-Georgia border in the north to Dade County in the south and along the Gulf Coast beaches to the west.
 More than 1,300 field personnel are working to restore service, but progress has been stymied by high winds creating new outages. Winds are not expected to subside before midnight and FPL anticipates that the level of customer outages will remain constant throughout the night.
 Late Saturday estimates of customer accounts without power include:
 -- Dade County, 100,000;
 -- Broward County, 70,000;
 -- Treasure Coast (Palm Beach County and surrounding counties), 100,000;
 -- Brevard County north to Florida-Georgia border, 90,000;
 -- Manatee County south to Monroe County, 70,000.
 FPL will update customer outage information on Sunday at approximately 8 a.m. when overnight crew reports are available.
