400 jobs are saved.

ALMOST 400 jobs have been safeguarded with a pounds 3.7m grant to a Runcorn pharmaceutical firm.

Florida-based IVAX Pharmaceuticals will use the money to complete a pounds 25m manufacturing plant at the Astmoor industrial estate, Preston Brook.

The firm specialises in security packaging of medical treatments for asthma and lung disease.

The money will allow the firm to remain in the north west after fears that IVAX could close the Runcorn outfit. It includes pounds 1.7mfrom the Northwest Development Agency and a Regional Selective Assistance grant of pounds 2m.
