40 minutes of terror: Emirati's road trip turns into misadventure.

Dubai: Chilling, dramatic and life threatening - an Emirati's normal trip between Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah turned into misadventure.

The motorist, whose vehicle experienced cruise control malfunction last month, recalled his ordeal calling it the most horrific incident of his life.

The terror-struck motorist said he had set the cruise control at 120mph, the official speed limit on that stretch, and when he reached the outskirts of Ajman he realised the cruise control system was stuck.

"I was really scared. I thought I was going to hit somebody and die. I called the police on 999 and within a few minutes the patrol vehicles came," said Abdullah Al Mulla, talking about his horrific experience.

Al Mulla's ordeal came to an end after around 40 minutes, during which he was in constant touch with the police on his mobile phone.

"They guided me throughout, with one car leading me and two vehicles at each side. They were telling me not worry. The ordeal came to an end on the outskirts of Ras Al Khaimah, when they diverted me to the desert and asked me to pull the hand brake slowly and continuously, which I did and the car came to a halt slowly," added Al Mullah, describing his life threatening experience.

The 25 year old, who works for a government agency in Ajman, said he is waiting for a technical report into the incident."

This is the second such incident involving cruise control in vehicles in less than six months.
