1 Bell peppers are very low in calories and fats. A 100g portion provides just 31 calories.

2 Fresh bell peppers are a rich source of vitamin C. This vitamin is especially concentrated in red peppers - 100g of red pepper provides about 213% of your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C.

3 They are also high in vitamin A. In addition, they contain antioxidant flavonoids, carotenes, lutein, zeaxanthin, and cryptoxanthin. Together, these antioxidant substances help protect the body from the harmful effects of free radicals generated during stress and disease conditions.

4 Bell peppers also contain essential minerals such as iron, copper, zinc, potassium, manganese, magnesium and selenium. The last three of these do important work protecting the body from harmful free radicals.
