3rd Marine Brigade commander gets first star.

By Francis Wakefield

A donning of rank ceremony was held at the Naval Station Jose Andrada, Roxas Boulevard, Manila on Tuesday, March 5, for the commander of the 3rd Marine Brigade, Brig. Gen. Charlton Sean M. Gaerlan.

The Flag Officer In Command, Philippine Navy (FOIC, PN) Vice Admiral Robert A. Empedrad, administered the donning of first star to the newly-promoted general followed by the awarding of personal flag, and pinning of Flag Rank Command Badge.

Imparting his message, Empedrad first acknowledged the Lord as promotions come from Him and that "it is always in accordance with His sovereign will."

Empedrad also lauded Gaerlan, saying that his promotion could be attributed to "his excellence performance, long list of accomplishments, hardwork through the years, all the job he has done, and good reputation he built throughout his dedicated service."

As promotions come with great responsibility, the Navy Chief reminded Gaerlan to always seek advice and exhorted him to be more deliberate and prudent whenever he decide for his organization.

"Promotion to a flag rank is a major turning point in the career of military officers which comes with a heavier responsibility being among the decision makers, and higher expectations in leading the men and women of the organization into greater accomplishments," Empedrad said.
