3M NATIONAL ADVERTISING COMPANY REACHES AGREEMENT WITH HUGHES NETWORK SYSTEMS, INC.

 ST. PAUL, Minn., March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- 3M (NYSE: MMM) National's Sound Products group has reached an agreement with Hughes Network Systems, Inc. to provide direct broadcast satellite music and audio advertising services to Hughes' domestic VSAT customers.
 3M National is a leader in Out-of-Home advertising as well as commercial business music and in-store audio advertising. Hughes Network Systems is the world's leading supplier of satellite-based private business networks. These interactive networks use Hughes Network Systems' Personal Earth Stations(TM) (PES) very small aperture terminals (VSATs). The PES features highly flexible architecture which can include voice, video, and data transmission to multiple locations. More than 50,000 PESs are installed worldwide.
 "This agreement will rapidly expand 3M's in-store media customer base," said Ed Shivitz, 3M Sound Products Project Manager.
 Ali Mohadjer, senior director of the Shared Hub Business Center at Hughes commented, "We are pleased to offer this enhanced service to our broad base of shared hub customers. This is just another example of the innovative applications of VSAT technology."
 3M will provide Hughes Network Systems' customers a variety of music formats including classical, jazz, instrumental, top 40 hits, hot country and adult contemporary. The 3M in-store media network allows retailers to combine selected music starchannels with advertising announcements that reach every customer in the retail establishment.
 "We have had excellent response from retailers in our efforts to expand in-store music services with advertising potential," said Shivitz. "In-store advertising is the fastest-growing segment in the ad business, with spending increasing 10 to 15 percent annually."
