3M ANNOUNCES PRE-RETIREMENT LEAVE POLICY FOR U.S. EMPLOYEES
ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- 3M (NYSE: MMM) announced a Pre-Retirement Leave Policy today which offers additional flexibility in benefit choices for eligible employees.
During the unpaid leave, of up to five years' duration, employees will continue to earn pension service credit, said Christopher Wheeler, senior vice president, Human Resources, for 3M.
Employees who are age 50 or older may begin Pre-Retirement Leave any time between March 1, 1992, and Dec. 31, 1993. Retirement is required at the end of the leave. 3M will continue to provide medical, dental and basic life insurance benefits during the leave.
"While this enhancement to our benefit plan offers another option to employees who are nearing retirement, we expect it will have a minimal impact on employment," according to Wheeler.
He added that the number of people who might choose the Pre- Retirement Leave is unknown.
