3M[TM] appoints distributor for automatic case labelling system.

3M United Kingdom pie has appointed Sussex & Berkshire Machinery Ltd as the first specialist distributor of its recently launched automatic case labelling system, which comprises the 3M-Matic[TM] SA 2000 Label Applicator and component Scotch[R] tapes and ribbons.

Both 3M Industrial Adhesive and Tapes Division and Sussex & Berkshire will sell the system under full 3M equipment warranty, with Sussex & Berkshire managing the installation and maintenance support, including spare parts supply, and offering a range of service contracts.

The 3M-Matic[TM] SA 2000 Label Applicator delivers "first label out" accuracy. It prints variable or fixed data on a roll of Scotch[R] linerless self adhesive tape, applying it in label format to the top or side of moving cartons.

It suits quick size changes. Variable label lengths, from 50mm to 200mm, can be programmed from a single roll.

A thermal transfer printer, connected to a standalone PC or company network, prints the adhesive tape. The label tape is cut and held by a vacuum pad that applies it to the carton.

The SA 2000 prints bar codes, variable text and images, with a resolution of eight dots per mm and applies the last printed label at a speed of up to 15 labels per minute.

Environmentally friendly, there is no backing paper to be disposed of and production efficiency is further enhanced with fewer roll changes, compared with traditional die cut rolls of paper labels. The SA 2000 will deliver more than 7,500 applications from a single roll of tape, depending on label lengths required.

Labels are scratch, scuff and moisture resistant. ensuring accurate bar code scanning on delivery. Demonstrations of the 3M automatic labelling system will be available at Sussex & Berkshire's demonstration rooms in Alton, Hampshire.
