3ETI AND JUNGLESOFT, INC. JOIN TO INTEGRATE GPS/WIRELESS HARDWARE/SOFTWARE FOR PALM OS.
3e Technologies International, Inc. and JungleSoft, Inc., has announced an agreement to develop location-based services solutions for PalmOS devices by integrating JunglePort, JungleSoft's market leading mobile portal platform, and The GLOVE a 3eTI wireless/GPS communications device, for both the consumer and enterprise markets. The combined technologies of these two companies provide a dynamic hardware/software and location-based solution that will pinpoint an end-user's location to within 10 yards, and then wirelessly deliver location-specific information. A consumer, for example, can conduct a query for the nearest Chinese restaurants and receive the information automatically without manually entering -- or needing to know -- his current location. Additionally, the platform will support "push" technologies that will enable brick-and-mortar entities to notify interested patrons of discounts or other promotions when travelling in the vicinity of their establishments.
In the enterprise area, 3eTI has agreed to develop telematics solutions to several large customers who will use JunglePort Maps software with The GLOVE as an add-on to their PalmOS devices. These mobile users will be pushed information from the 3eTI Telematics Data Center to enhance their operational efficiency with better communication and location awareness. The Emergency Management Community will conduct a wide-area operational test in Spring 2001 where mobile users will be able to both push and pull information that will be relevant to their immediate locations. Emergency supervisors will be able to remotely track their emergency response personnel to better coordinate their activities.
Until now, wireless transmit and receive operations, as well as, GPS functionality, have been available as separate products for the PalmOS devices. 3eTI, with The Glove is the first company to successfully integrate and interoperate all of these communications features in a single device. Before The Glove users had to select which functionality they preferred in their handheld device. Previously, the most accurate positioning technology available to wireless PalmOS users was limited, since the location resolution responded with information targeted to the nearest zip code. In contrast, The Glove provides highly accurate, location-specific information that is delivered dynamically and efficiently to users of PalmOS TM devices.
