3DO and NTN Inc. Complete New World Computing Acquisition.
The purchase price will be guaranteed by The 3DO Company. The acquisition is expected to give 3DO access to more than three million gamers, strengthen the company's expertise in the role-playing and strategy game genres, and add capabilities to its Internet efforts.
The development and publishing functions of New World Computing will remain in Agoura Hills and operate as a division under the Studio 3DO umbrella. 3DO intends to continue using the New World Computing brand name on products developed and published by the division. Flagship titles expected to be released this year include Heroes of Might and Magic II and Wages of War.
In the last year, 3DO has completed two other acquisitions to bolster its development and publishing capacity. Cyclone Studios, acquired in December of last year, is focused on original content development. Archetype Interactive, acquired last month, is the developer of Meridian 59, the first 3-D graphical multi-user dimension (MUD) game over the Internet, that already has more than 12,000 beta users worldwide. In addition, Studio 3DO has expanded its development of original content with new talent and titles including Killing Time and BladeForce.
