Security Advantage Partners To Receive Training and Discounts

on Award-Winning Suite of 3Com(R) Network Security Solutions

3Com (NASDAQ: COMS) today announced the launch of its Security Advantage program, which provides extensive security training, certification and discounts to 3Com Focus partners in the United States and Canada. Through the program's training and certification process, 3Com partners can increase sales and profits by providing customers with inherently secure networks through a variety of 3Com(R) security solutions. The Security Advantage program is the first of several new Focus Advantage programs that 3Com intends to introduce to partners enrolled in 3Com's Focus Partner Program.

"Network vulnerabilities and security breaches are growing at exponential rates," said Dave Smith, 3Com Vice President of Sales and Service, Americas. "3Com's approach is to build security features directly into traditional networking hardware so that security is embedded into the very fabric of the network. Our resellers have embraced 3Com's multi-layered security approach and we look forward to helping them benefit from our unique array of security offerings. We intend to help our resellers capitalize on these major market opportunities and do so with the most competitive incentives."

According to yearly statistics gathered by the CERT Coordination Center, a federally funded computer security incident response team, the number of computer vulnerabilities reported in the last three years has increased by 378 percent. The number of secured incidents reported has climbed a comparable 377 percent.

Partners can take advantage of this market demand through 3Com's suite of security hardware and software, which is designed to meet the needs of public and private organizations of all sizes. 3Com's security solutions address multiple risk points of a network, giving resellers multiple opportunities to provide customers with value-added sales and services.

Resellers joining the Security Advantage partner program are required to have personnel trained at the sales level and trained and certified at the engineering level in 3Com security products. Hands-on training classes for security products will begin in June. Once Security Advantage partners complete training and agree to a minimum level of annual 3Com security product sales, they qualify for special discounts on hardware (five percent) and software (ten percent) products.

"3Com provides partners with the tools to address the security needs of their customers to varying degrees. However, unlike many security certification programs that focus primarily on systems integrators with large enterprise customers, 3Com's Security Advantage program is flexible and will cater to the level of expertise of each partner," said Smith. "This personalization will help train our partners, whether they are large systems integrators or smaller VARs, to take full advantage of 3Com's breadth of security products to deploy layered security for small, medium and large networks."

3Com has several hardware and software security solutions, which can be found at, including:

Embedded Firewalls

The 3Com Embedded Firewall solutions are firewalls embedded onto PCI cards for desktops and servers and PC cards for laptops. These tamper-resistant hardware firewalls allow IT managers to deploy a company-wide, policy-based client and server security scheme. The unique combination of firewall hardware and centralized policy management deters attacks and helps prevent intrusions from both inside and outside the perimeter of the network in desktop, server and notebook PC, augmenting wiring closet security and perimeter firewalls to deliver 'defense-in-depth' network security.

3Com's Embedded Firewall has recently been honoured with the 'Best New Security Solution' for 2003 from the leading global security publication SC Magazine.

3Com SuperStack(R) 3 Firewall

The SuperStack 3 Firewall is an ICSA-certified, high-performance, highly secure perimeter firewall that offers maximum protection at an affordable price. Recent security enhancements include support for native Microsoft L2TP/IPSec VPN clients, bandwidth prioritization, x.509 Digital Certificates, dual security zones to segregate networks and an internal authentication database.

3Com OfficeConnect(R) Firewalls

3Com OfficeConnect firewalls are specifically engineered to provide high-level security for small offices and branch offices. OfficeConnect firewall products include a Secure Cable/DSL Gateway which combines a highly secure stateful packet inspection firewall and robust hardware accelerated VPN initiation / termination with support for IPSec, PPTP and L2TP offering maximum flexibility at an attractive price point.

3Com Network Supervisor Advanced Package

A powerful yet easy-to-use management application that graphically discovers, maps, and displays network links and IP services. Security features include support for 802.1X network login, identification of RADIUS servers and VLAN support. Once authenticated, 3Com Network Supervisor Advanced Package can track and identify each user, including which switch they are connected to, allowing network administrators to efficiently track down user-based problems and potential hackers.
