"Tom Kiernan has been a valued and versatile officer with a career full of tough assignments handled with intellect and imagination," said Don Carty, American's chairman and CEO. "He is widely respected and liked throughout our organization and will be missed. We wish him well in retirement and thank him for more than three decades of contributions that have very much helped shape the company we are today."

"Sue has been a catalyst in helping American build greater levels of trust and credibility with the institutions that represent many of our employees, resulting in clearly improved relationships with each of our unions," Carty said. "By adopting new and creative methods to resolve the difficult issues that naturally arise as part of employee relations, Sue has helped us create a more trusting environment with our labor groups -- and I am confident her style and approach will serve American well in this new assignment."

Oliver will be responsible for a number of departments, including Human Resources, Field Human Resources, Employee Relations, Medical and American's training and conference organization -- Flagship University. The Information Technology group, which previously reported to Kiernan, will now report to the Office of the Chairman.
