300TH DASH 8 ENTERS SERVICE WITH USAIR EXPRESS DOWNSVIEW, Ontario, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- The 300th de Havilland
Dash 8 regional airliner to enter service has been delivered to USAir Express carrier Allegheny Airlines, based in Reading, Penn.
This delivery establishes the Dash 8 family of aircraft -- 37/39- passenger Series 100 and 50/56-passenger Series 300 -- as the worldwide leader in its class, with about 30 more airplanes in service than its nearest competitor, according to John Howarth, de Havilland's vice president, marketing and sales. "More than 50 carriers around the world, in 21 countries, have chosen the Dash 8 as the backbone of their operations," Howarth said. "With almost two million hours in service, and more than 40 million satisfied passengers, the airplane has provided the opportunity for regional airlines to offer modern, frequent and economical service in both highly industrialized and developing countries." North America has been the leading market for the Dash 8 products, with customers in the United States ordering 129 and those in Canada placing orders for 111. European customers are close behind, with 94 orders. Expanding markets in the Asia/Pacific region (21 orders) and Latin America (14 orders) account for the balance of sales to date, Howarth added. De Havilland's Dash 8 program has accounted for 379 orders to date (263 Series 100s and 116 Series 300s), with a current backlog of 79 aircraft. -0- 1/16/92 /CONTACT: John Davy, 416-375-3030, for de Havilland/ CO: Boeing of Canada Ltd.; Allegheny Airlines ST: Ontario IN: AIR SU: CON FC -- NY041 -- 0469 01/16/92 11:30 EST
