3 political activists, 2 gangsters shot dead.

KARACHI, July 23 -- Targeted killings claimed five more lives on Thursday as two activists of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), one of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (MQM-H) and two Lyari gangsters were gunned down

More than a dozen political activists have fallen victim to targeted killings in the city in the last three days severely affecting the law and order situation in various areas.

Meanwhile, a water board employee, also an activist of MQM, was shot dead while going to work near the German School in Orangi Town.

Pakistan Bazaar police station SHO Farooq Omar said two armed men on a motorcycle opened indiscriminate fire on 38-year-old Asghar alias Fuji, son of Sharafat Ali, in Sector 10, Orangi Town. The culprits escaped after killing Asghar on the spot, he added.

Eyewitnesses' accounts revealed that both the assailants were wearing helmets and shot the deceased from a close range.

The police shifted his body to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities

The deceased was a resident of Mominabad, Orangi Town and belonged to MQM's Orangi Sector Unit No 124. He has left behind a widow and six children to mourn his death.

Separately, the police found the tortured body of an MQM activist near the Link Road within the limits of Surjani Town police station.

SHO Altaf Dehar said the deceased identified as Farhan, son of Farooq, a resident of Sector 7-A, Surjani Town, was a driver at ASH. Unidentified culprits had kidnapped him on Wednesday evening, when he was going to the hospital and later he was found shot dead after brutal torture, he added.

Sources said he was an activist of MQM, but police officials denied his affiliation with the party.

The police have registered FIR No 565/10 against unidentified culprits on the complaint of the deceased's father Farooq.

In another incident, an activist of MQM-H was gunned down near the Saudia School in Murad Memon Goth within the limits of Saudabad police station.

As per details, Muhammad Fazal, 25, son of Yaseen, a resident of Khokhrapar, was sitting with his friends outside the school, where unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on him. Fazal sustained four bullets and died on the spot. The police later shifted his body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.

MQM-H officials claimed the victim was an active worker of the Malir Sector Unit-99. However, no case was registered until the filing of this report.

In a separate incident, the police found two bodies of young men bearing torture marks near Roi Wali Street in the limits of Kalakot police station.

SHO Malik Saleem said the victims were identified as Ejaz, 26, son of Haroon Jutt, and Basheer, son of Shabbir, residents of Bihar Colony, Chakiwara, Lyari. They were both friends and associated with Lyari gangster Raja Pathan, he added.

The officer further said both the deceased were kidnapped on Wednesday.

The father of Ejaz, nephew of former UC Lyari Councillor Hassan Jutt, has claimed that Fahim Khan, the son of notorious drug peddler Badshah Khan had killed both of them.
