3 dead, 16 injured in STAR Tollway crash.

LIPA CITY, Batangas - Two students and a commuter van driver perished while 16 others were injured when the vehicle overturned after a tire blowout Monday morning along the Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR) Tollway in Lipa City, Batangas.

Chief Inspector Wilfredo Sacmar, STAR Tollway Road Crash Investigation head identified the fatalities as Maxine Guinevere Vivas, Ma. Kristina Paula Mercurio, both students at De La Salle-Lipa who expired at Mary Mediatrix Medical Center and van driver Danny Manalo, who expired at the Daniel Mercado Medical Center in Tanauan City.

The Batangas Police Provincial Office said the commuter van (NDS 6161) on the south-bound lane of the expressway when the trie blowout occcured.

The van overturned and eventually settled at the center island of the expressway in Barangay Bugtong.

The injured passengers were brought by rescuers and first responders to Mary Mediatrix Medical Center, Metro Lipa Hospital in Lipa City and CP Reyes Hospital in Tanauan City.
