3 IN 4 KIDS DON'T GET LUNCH HOUR.

ONLY one in four secondary school pupils get alunchhour-with some forced to gulp down food and get exercise in as little as 20 minutes.

Thesurvey of local authorities showed just 24 per cent of schools give pupils a full hour for lunch.

One in three gave a maximum of 40minutes, while on eineight allowed 35 minutes.

A handful of schools give their pupils just 20 minutes break.

Critics yesterday warned the short breaks risked driving up child obesity by denying youngsters a chance to run around and giving them an incentive to wolf down junk food.

Lib Dem schools spokesman David Laws said: "Many pupils don't even have time to sit down to a proper meal and they are also missing out on time to run around.

"Child obesity is a real problem and we should be doing all we can to ensure pupils are not only eating healthily but are also keeping fit."

The British Medical Association said: "It is important school offers children an environment where they can eat healthily and take exercise. They must have time to do both."
