3 Best wines from the high street.

Byline: Wine seller with Brian Elliott

2018 Beefsteak Club Tempranillo PS5.99 - instead of PS8.99 until February 19 - at Waitrose Here is a dark, intense red from just south of Madrid that will, as its name implies, successfully accompany red meats. It has graphite edged plum and sour cherry fruit with good acidity and firm tannin - all enhanced by background suggestions of cocoa, vanilla, mint and other herbs.

2017 Weissburgunder Trocken PS5.99 at Lidl's latest Wine Tour promotion (containing 26 wines from PS4.99 upwards) started last week and includes the tasty Purple Heron Cinsault and soft Viajero Cabernet Sauvignon - both at PS7.99. Pick of the bunch, however, is this German white led by the seriously underestimated pinot blanc. It has sharp sherbet acidity and neatly textured sweetness that, in combination, add extra dimensions to the wine's attractive lime and quince fruit.

2017 Bianco Terre Siciliane PS5 - instead of PS6 until March 4 - at M&S This great value white has long been a favourite easy going option among M&S customers and the current discount adds to that appeal. Its soft pear and apple fruit has a spicy depth with ripe tropical fruit touches yet there is also good lemon acidity to keep everything lively.
