2ND LD: 10 killed, 45 injured in bomb blast in Pakistan's Karachi.

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 15 Kyodo

Ten people were killed and 45 others injured in a bomb blast in the southern Pakistani port city of Karachi on Monday night, the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan reported.

The bomb was planted on a motorcycle and was apparently triggered by a timing device or remote control, hospital sources and witnesses said.

The area in which the explosion took place is dominated by migrant workers for other Pakistani cities and coincided with the arrival of President Pervez Musharraf at the port city on a two-day visit.

Musharraf later expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the victims and heartfelt sympathy to the injured in the incident, the APP report said.

The blast occurred on the fourth day of the Islamic month of Moharram which is sacred for Shiite Muslims who constitute 10-15 percent of Pakistan's population of 160 million people.
